Two very active boys with a passion for all things outdoors need a rather indestructible space. Using reclaimed barn-board from a local barn and antique painted pine flooring (also from Maine), we created dramatic accents and storage and their bathroom. A hidden step in the toe kick and lowered sink allows little ones to be big kids for as long as they need. Sunbrella fabric on the roman shades ensures they can hold up to use and moisture.
We built storage into the eaves for both clothing and ample toy storage. The room also features indoor/outdoor rugs and drapery fabric, as well as solid wood bunk beds and custom matched built-ins that will stand the test of time. Kid-friendly elements include safety cages on the ceiling fan and organic mattresses for healthy breathing. Repurposed, sustainable materials not only set examples for children to live by but also create a unique, special narrative about their space.
